What is a Domain Name

A domain is simply the name of a website that allows it to be easily identified on the internet, and it is unique.

Example: multilistas.com is unique; there cannot be another one exactly like it. However, there can be another multilistas with a different extension, such as .net, .org, etc.

Each domain extension has its own meaning, which not everyone knows:

  • .com = Commercial
  • .net = Networks
  • .org = Nonprofit organizations
  • .info = Information
  • .us = United States
  • .es = Spain
  • .tv = Television
  • .pa = Panama
  • .biz = Business
  • .ar = Argentina
  • .mx = Mexico, etc.

However, many people do not follow this rule and use .org for commercial purposes as an alternative if the desired name is already taken in .com or .net.

So far, this practice has not been penalized or pursued by any authority.

Domain prices vary annually depending on the company you purchase them from and the extension. You can find domains ranging from $1.99 (.info) to $45.00 (.tv). However, if the name is very popular, domain hunters may sell it to you for thousands of dollars.

New domain names are created every day.
